This epic tale unfolds as Hawkman and Hawkwoman are fully engaged in a clandestine shadow war with a mysterious group of hostile and very aggressive covert soldiers from Thanagar (Hawkman's home world), led by Commander Fell Andar, who plans are to conquer the entire galaxy with planet Earth as their first target. This page depicts a very moving moment in the story when Shayera Hol reveals to her husband that she was not slain in battle by the Thanagarian Commando Rab Mekir, as he previously thought. Rab Mekir had mistakenly shot dead the artist Mavis Trent, who had put on Hawkwoman's costume after she had discovered that Katar Hol and Shayera Hol were secretly the famed Hawkman and Hawkwoman. Shayera goes onto explain the further steps she made to learn more about the invasion before she could rendezvous with her enraged and grief-stricken husband. The Shadow War of Hawkman turned out to be an important 4-issue mini-series in the history of Hawkman since the Winged Wonders thwarted this Thanagarian invasion of Earth and thus, become traitors to their home world in the process.
