Description: Dramatic and moody re-creation of Bob Kane's classic and utterly unforgettable splash panel to Detective Comics #30 (DC, 1939), by his very first and most trusted assistant, Sheldon "Shelly" Moldoff. Shelly mentioned that he began to work with Bob on his first year Batman stories as early as Detective Comics #30 as an inking assistant on the backgrounds. And thus, to have Shelly do this stunning rendition of Bob's splash panel was a match made in Heaven. This piece presents The Bat-Man as he was initially created by Bob Kane for the story "The Batman and the Diamonds of Death," written by Gardner Fox. Bob and Gardner proved to be THE IDEAL TEAM for the Dark Knight, brilliantly weaving dark, grim and moody tales mantled with a very heavy cinematic noir atmospheric feel and that gripping, fog-ladden "mysterioso" mood as Bob would describe his early work on the hero over and over again. Bob's early artwork during this crucial first year period was heavily inspired by the movie Dracula (Universal, 1931). This was the non-nonsense vigilante man-hunter of the twilight who would not hesitate in the slightest to use deadly force on his adversaries, routinely slaying his foes in the line of duty.
